Korean Sound Wave: "Wonder Girls" Await All-English Album Release

It was three years ago when the Korean hit group Wonder Girls told NY1 exclusively about plans for their first English language single.
Since then, they have toured with the Jonas Brothers, appeared on national TV and released a CD with four English songs.
They now have an all-English language album due any day now. Area producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jenkins and New York’s own Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Claude Kelly worked on the album, which is due to be released by a major American record label.
“We love the songs,” said Lim, one of the Wonder Girls’ members. “We hope you guys will like it.”
The group is also becoming quite the hit on TV. MTV’s “Wonder Girls” is already in it’s fourth season. But they made the biggest splash in their debut on Teen Nick with “The Wonder Girls’ Movie.” The setting is Harlem and the battle ground is the famed Apollo Theatre.
The girls had no trouble making a little fun of themselves.
“We got to work with a lot of great people during the whole time in our movie,” said Wonder Girl Sun. “It was a really fun experience for us.”
“It got great reviews,” said producer J.Y. Park. “We got an offer for a regular program, so now we’re developing a regular 10-episode program.”
The group joined School Gyrls for the movie track “The DJ is Mine,” which reached number one on a number of Korean charts. But TV and movies may be just as much in the Wonder Girls future.
“Let’s not forget, they will grow up and be these beautiful women,” said Minya Oh of Miss Info. “As long as they are allowed to assert themselves and have that growth, then who knows what can happen.”
“I definitely feel that they have a chance to make it in this ‘tween’ market, in the leagues of a Justin Bieber or Jordin Sparks,” said entertainment writer David Yi. “They’re definitely making it in the states.”
How much is actually riding on the group’s next album is anyone’s guess but the group’s versatility shows that no matter what, they have lot of fall back on here in the U.S.
