2NE1 at the MTV Video Music Awards won Best New Artist video award.
K-pop stars had a huge presence at MTV Video Music Awards Japan with 2NE1 (YG Entertainment), Girls Generation (SM Entertainment) and 2PM (JYP Entertainment) all picking up awards.
2NE1 and their video “I am the Best”
beat out currently hot Japanese sensation Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Warner
Music Japan, pronounced “Cary Pam Pam”) for the Best New Artist video
award and the band was on hand to slam out a seamless rendition of their
winning track as well as the tune “Scream.”
Perfume who both hosted and won at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan
The awards show was held for the second consecutive year on the
outskirts of Tokyo in the Makuhari Messe complex. Six thousand attended
the event, which were hosted by hip Japanese girl groupPerfume, who won best dance video for their song “Laser Beam.” Winners were determined by online voting.
K-Pop band 2PM won Best Group Video award.
Girls Generation swiped Best Album of the Year,
nudging aside the likes of Lady Gaga and Coldplay. They won for their
Japanese release Shoujo Jidai, which is the name of the band rendered in
Japanese. Korean males were represented by the boy band 2PM, who walked away with the Best Group Video for “I’m Your Man.”

Japanese mega-group Exile (Avex) came forth for the hometown crowd, nabbing the Best Video of the Year for “Rising Sun” and Namie Amuro (Avex) pushed aside Bjork and Rihanna to grab Best Female Video for “Love Story.”
Linkin Park (Warner Music), the only major Western group to attend, performed three songs, “Lies Greed Misery,” “Numb, ” and “Burn it Down.”
